Our homes have the ability to both reflect our psychology, and to affect it, which is why, each year, Dulux releases the Dulux Colour Forecast. Itβs intended not only to take our collective pulse, but to offer inspiration for the year ahead.
β
The Dulux Colour Forecast is based on year-round research and thinking. The Dulux colour team, led in Aotearoa New Zealand by Davina Harper, attends design shows, forecast presentations and global events, most importantly Milan Design Week. Along with trends, research and insights from Duluxβs global network, the forecast draws on collective desires, and how they might affect us at home.
β
Global disruption and fragmentation have been ongoing themes for a number of years, but whatβs changed for 2027 is our reaction to them. This yearβs forecast celebrates joy, individuality and everyday rituals. It sees us stepping away from perfectly curated, digitally inspired environments into something more personal and imperfect.
β
Curated into three palettes β Play, Treasure and Sensory β this yearβs forecast draws on calming blues, comforting botanical tones and sophisticated jewel-like shades. Each palette reflects a craving for authenticity, meaningful connections and the celebration of spontaneity and personality.
β
As our digital lives become ever more disruptive and fractured, and the algorithm and AI turn out more and more manufactured, seemingly perfect existences, in our physical environments, there is a shift towards spaces that feel grounded, human and emotionally restorative. This response reflects a desire to slow down, find comfort in rituals and surround ourselves with meaning and connection.
β
βAs we become increasingly technologically sophisticated, many of us are also feeling more socially disconnected,β says Harper. βIn a world shaped by algorithms, endless content and digital noise, there is a growing sense of sameness and overstimulation. The palettes reflect an urgent desire to create spaces that feel more personal, expressive and deeply human.β Β
