Welcome to spring!
Here 08 celebrates houses with a sense of spirit. We’re not a particularly religious bunch here on Here, but as the houses came together they seemed to have a sense of contemplation to them – a touch of wharenui here and a chapel there. Volumes that rise above you and make you feel safe at the same time. They offer comfort – and we all need a bit of that right now.
Our cover features a sublime minor dwelling by Pac Studio, an 'urban bach' built on a rear site in Sandringham, Tāmaki Makaurau. Also in the issue, we feature a luxury rental on Waiheke by Stevens Lawson, a lovely renovation of an 1870s cottage near Arrowtown by Anna-Marie Chin, and two lightweight houses in the Aro Valley by Geoff Fletcher. Oh, and we visit a 1985 John Scott in Havelock North.
Elsewhere, we announce the shortlist for the Here Awards, profile artist Andrew Beck, chat with Bec Snelling about losing everything but coming back better... And Ben Daly rehabs his mothers 1980s kitchen with a bold colour palette.
