Open Home Auckland City

Our next Open Home with Dulux is a double billing of urban design in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Urban Tāmaki Makaurau is in a state of flux: the city’s fabric is changing rapidly, bringing new typologies and ways of living to a formerly suburban space. At the same time, its older buildings – once overlooked – offer new opportunities for urban living. Neither option involves a 600-square-metre section or expanses of lawn: both celebrate our unique place in the world.

On one Saturday in February 2024, in association with our friends at Dulux, we’re opening two very different ways of living in the city – an apartment by Lloyd Hartley Architects and a townhouse by Guy Tarrant Architects.

In the gentrifying Britomart area, Ben Lloyd took a tired space in a former Fisher & Paykel warehouse back to its studs, before layering in new materials and fittings that bring in light and celebrate the 80-year-old bones of the formerly industrial building.

Meanwhile, in Rangi-mata-rau Point Chevalier, Guy Tarrant designed a courtyard house on a rear site that takes advantage of density rules under the Mixed Housing Suburban Zone of the Auckland Unitary Plan. Using a simple palette of white-painted brick and fine timberwork, Tarrant came up with a design featuring dynamic spaces under a big sheltering roof, with covered outdoor living and a delightful courtyard.

We can’t wait to see you there.
