The Australasian brand Baina launched back in 2019 and has built a loyal following for its mindful collection of towels. They come in beautiful colours and are generous in size, with a thick pile made from organic cotton. (We like them very much and can advise from experience that they last exceptionally well. We can also heartily recommend their pool towels.)
The brand has struck a unique selling point: the towels are warm and tactile, shunning the cold minimalism of bathrooms gone by. They’re design forward, but the brand is “seasonless”, deliberately releasing new colourways that complement their existing ones, and being careful about the quantities they make.
But while they’ve made the brand’s name producing towels, founders Bailey Meredith and Anna Fahey (the “Bai” to the “na”) have always been more interested in the act of bathing than the act of drying off. “Bathing is a deeply personal practice,” says Fahey, “an intentional return to self.”
With that in mind, Baina has now released Apothecary, a six-piece collection of bathing essentials including a bath milk, bath salts, body wash, body scrub and post-bath oil. They’re beautifully designed, as you’d expect, and they come in minimal – and recyclable – aluminium packaging.
The range draws on “physiological, cognitive and somatic benefits”. Each product uses native plant extracts, mineral-rich clays, medicinal herbs and naturally derived active ingredients to nurture body and mind. Naturally, they’re free from parabens, synthetic fragrance, phthalates, silicones, polyethylene glycols and sodium lauryl sulfates.
“Baina represents a reconnection to one’s bathing routine, serving as a gentle reminder to take your time,” says Meredith. “With Apothecary, we extend our role into the moments that begin and end each day.”
