Supporting local manufacturing was always pretty important, but if thereβs one thing that has emerged from the past few months, itβs that there is something meaningful in supporting local makers whenever you can.Β
β
Powersurge is based in West Auckland: they fabricate custom steel and brass pieces for houses, shops and restaurants. Youβve probably seen their work around without knowing who made it. But they also design and make a range of things for the home β everything from mirrors to handles.Β
β
The brand has just released its latest range, which includes new handles and mirrors β weβre particularly taken with the tall PS Mirror, tall and long, round at top and bottom. And thereβs a new light, the Lito Trio with lineal lengths of brass surrounding LED fixtures, seamlessly attached to a central hexagonal piece.
β
The pieces have elegant lines and a lovely sense of craft: they are polished and refined but also read as hand-made, with a warmth that cannot be replicated by a machine. Theyβre pieces that will last well into the future, and age gracefully as they do so. That feels important right now.
