In case you haven’t heard, the Pantone 2025 Colour of the Year is Mocha Mousse. Touted as “a warming brown hue, imbued with a richness that is underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures”, the earthy hue looks as good as it sounds. So, it makes sense that Baya’s new collection is centred around the sophisticated tone, even if its inclusion is, as lead designer Hannah Middleton tells us, “pure coincidence”.
“We develop our collections more than a year before we release them, so it happened by chance,” Middleton explains. “Baya has always centred its colour palette around earthy tones – shades that strike a fine balance between sophistication and groundedness – as they perfectly balance the rawness of natural elements with the sleekness of high-end, luxurious design.” Folding this palette of browns, brass and sand into its hand-loomed rugs, cushions, and throws, Baya’s 2025 collection has an unpretentious elegance to it, existing in that tricky space between contemporary and classic.
The balance is partly due to a restraint in design. Baya forgoes elaborate prints or trending patterns in favour of clean lines, minimalism and subtle details. “Modernity for us is about being forward-thinking, while timelessness is about creating designs that remain relevant, desirable and functional, no matter the era,” says Middleton. “It’s a delicate balance of innovation, and respect for tradition, allowing our pieces to feel as fresh as they are enduring.”
