At My Table: Cat Fooks

A recycled toy oven and school desk join forces to form a trusty studio sidekick.

Right now my thoughts are in the studio as Sam Hartnett has just documented the space for my show with Anna Miles Gallery. So the table I chose is one of several custom work surfaces I flit between while painting.

This “table” is composed of two found objects I have fused together to give me the perfect height for a painting palette. The bottom furniture is a handmade kiddies’ oven – complete with hobs, knobs and a functioning oven door that opens. Inside it had a wooden oven tray for yet-to-be-baked bread!

Perched on top is a school desk that was once open. Alas it is now firmly glued shut with the multiple layers of paint encrusted on it.

The table is a work in progress, it continues to evolve and potentially may end up being shown. But for now it is an incredibly high-functioning table that does a lot of heavy lifting.
