Hugo Boss devises a suitably modern take on the classic Togo design by Michel Ducaroy.

How do you update a classic? By collabΒorating with an equally classic brand. Ligne Roset – the French, family-owned furniture company – has made the iconic Togo sofa since 1973, with very few changes. Constructed from 100 percent foam, its slow-slung, β€œtoothpaste-tube” profile is instantly recognisable.

‍

Now, Ligne Roset has collaborated with Hugo Boss, the German-owned fashion house, to come up with a new take on the 53-year-old design. Their response? To bring what Boss creative director Marco Falcioni describes as a β€œmade-to-measure suit in our home – a seating experience where comfort, craftsmanship and contemporary sophistication meet”.

‍

The limited-edition fireside chair comes with a matching footstool: it’s the first Togo to be made with a mixed-material construction – featuring leather on the back and a softer textile on the seat. It comes in two classic colourways – grΓ¨ge, which features a combination of tan leather and cream upholstery, and graphite, a more muted charcoal look. Both feature distinctive stitching inspired by Boss’s tailoring.

‍

The run debuted at European design fairs in April, and will be available in New Zealand this spring. β€œThis collaboration with Boss reinterprets the Togo through a new lens,” says Antoine Roset, CEO of Ligne Roset, β€œwhere craftsmanship meets the precision of tailoring to create a piece that is expressive, comfortable and distinctly contemporary.”
