Weβre a bit excited about this one. This issue, thanks to our friends at ColorCote, Here features as part of The Outdoor Issue, calling your attention to buildings around the centre of TΔmaki Makaurau Auckland. On billboards and at bus stops, weβve captioned buildings of various ages and typologies β turning the city into a kind of three-dimensioned magazine.
β
In doing so, weβre calling attention to buildings you might not be conscious of β the city is full of overlooked and forgotten buildings, but every building (good and bad) has been designed in some way: our campaign seeks to highlight the architects behind the buildings that make our city. Some of them feature ColorCote; some of them donβt. In all, itβs an effort to think a second time about the things we see every day.
β
Theyβre wildly different. Thereβs a luxury apartment block in Ponsonby designed by Fearon Hay, which has grafted a beautiful new building next to a heritage shop front. Thereβs a wonderfully esoteric post-modern masterpiece by Warren and Mahoney β while theyβre better known for mid-century masterpieces and contemporary public buildings, even they had a post-modern moment, which they mastered with typical expertise. And thereβs a reminder β in a gaggle of poorly planned apartment blocks from the late 1990s and early 2000s β that good cities need good architects.
β
The campaign runs for the duration of this magazineβs time on-sale, until mid-December. Keep an eye out β or follow the QR code on the page to find out more.
